In a statement, Hendrick Motorsports, the NASCAR team’s director of racing communications, acknowledged the death of Jon Edwards.
At the age of 53, Jon, a well-liked NASCAR personality who “carried a genuine passion for the industry,” died. Although Hendrick Motorsports would not disclose the cause of his death, they noted that his impact on the organization and sport “cannot be overstated.” The text of the statement was:
“We regret to inform you of the demise of our longtime friend, teammate, and director of racing communications, Jon Edwards.
As a respected figure in our sport, Jon was a model professional who had a unique talent for creating enduring bonds with people. One cannot stress the impact he has had on Hendrick Motorsports, the NASCAR community, and innumerable individuals. Above all, Jon was a sincere enthusiast for our business, our company, and his numerous coworkers and friends. He was also a kind and considerate person.
