Journalist Ben Jacobs has disclosed Leeds United’s interest in making a summer transfer for James McAtee of Manchester City. A new attacking midfield player will be the Whites’ top priority, and they are keeping a close eye on McAtee in anticipation of his possible availability at the end of the season. Even though McAtee didn’t play much under Pep Guardiola, Man City decided to keep him in January. However, if he wants more playing time, they might “reluctantly agree” to let him go in the summer.
The 22-year-old has only made five starts for City across all competitions this season and has only appeared as a substitute seven times. He has also yet to start a Premier League game. James McAtee is being targeted by Leeds. There will be a new No. 10 this summer.
Jacobs claims that Leeds, who preserved their cash in January, are making the acquisition of a playmaker their first priority, regardless of the division they finish in the following season. In the midst of their continuous struggle for first place in the Championship, the Whites had a quiet winter window and signed no new players for Daniel Farke. After 32 games, they are now two points ahead of Sheffield United, whom they will play on February 24.
Described as “incredible” by City headquarters, McAtee was linked to a move away from the Etihad last year, with reports indicating that West Ham United considered signing him in January. The 22-year-old spent the previous two seasons on loan at Sheffield United, a rival in the Leeds Championship, where he made 75 appearances and contributed 22 goals. In 2022–2023 he was named the Blades’ Young Player of the Year, following in the footsteps of Premier League players Morgan Gibbs-White and Aaron Ramsdale.
