More than four months have passed since Monnapule Saleng was first mentioned by Orlando Pirates supporters in local forums in response to salary demands that the Soweto giants rejected.
As the club continues to be reluctant, the 27-year-old, who was seen in training for the first time this season, appears to be headed for an offseason departure. Millions would be made from a Saleng sell, but his stock price has surely dropped after being sidelined for months.
A lot of people believe that the longer the story goes on, the greater the likelihood of an escape.
Masibusane Zongo, a former PSL winger, spoke on the advantages of therapy while keeping Saleng in mind. He said, “I only got that when I got to Platinum Stars, they used to organize people to talk to us, some ex-players.”
“I would counsel players today to listen to those who are offering assistance if they have the opportunity, as they are speaking from experience. Perhaps in my younger years, I would have been among those athletes who refuse to listen,” Zongo continued.
He said, “Most players don’t like to share, especially private and confidential things, but I’d advise them to go and open up and talk, because once you bottle things inside, trust me, those things are going to kill you progressively.”
