After being accused of sexual assault, a talented college football player and major NFL prospect has bonded out of jail and is claiming he is innocent.
On Thursday, April 10, 20-year-old Isaiah Bond, a wide receiver for the University of Texas, responded to the accusations against him on social media.
In a statement sent to his verified Instagram account, Bond stated, “With regard to the charge against me, I would appreciate the time and opportunity to defend myself and prove the claims made, patently false.”
“The authorities have my complete cooperation, and I will continue to be a willing and active participant in the investigation.” Unfortunately, without a thorough investigation, statements like these end up hurting everyone. Until the authorities present a comprehensive report based on facts and evidence, I respectfully ask that everyone hold off on making any decisions,” he said.
Bond was released after posting bond, according to the Frisco Police Department, which confirmed to PEOPLE that he turned himself in to police in connection with an unresolved sexual assault warrant.
Not immediately apparent were specifics of the charges against the athlete.
Bond was anticipated to be selected in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft, which will take place in Green Bay, Wisconsin, from April 24 to April 26, according to ESPN and NBC Sports.
The two seasons Bond spent with the Alabama Crimson Tide, where he caught 65 receptions for 888 yards and five touchdowns prior to joining the Longhorns, are among the highlights of his collegiate career.
He caught 34 catches for 540 yards and five touchdowns in 2024 after arriving in Texas.
According to ESPN, he was measured hitting 22 mph during the Longhorns’ victory against UTSA that season. At the NFL scouting combine, Bond also had a 40-yard dash time of 4.39.
Bond worked out in private with the Buffalo Bills on April 4. According to NBC Sports, he had appointments with the Tennessee Titans, Kansas City Chiefs, Green Bay Packers, and Cleveland Browns. He also intended to go to the Atlanta Falcons’ local prospect day.
