BREAKING NEWS:A NASCAR team that finished in 35th place will not be returning to Martinsville…..

The NY Racing Team will not be returning to Martinsville Speedway after making their second start of the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

NY Racing Team made a comeback the following weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway after missing out on qualifying for the 2025 NASCAR Cup series season-opening Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway.

At the Circuit of the Americas (COTA), Phoenix Raceway, and Las Vegas Motor Speedway, however, the No. 44 Chevrolet did not make a comeback to the series after J.J. Yeley was killed in an accident. It made a comeback to the Homestead-Miami Speedway entry list for the race this past weekend.

Yeley finished in 35th place after completing 267 laps around the 1.5-mile (2.414-kilometer), four-turn Homestead, Florida oval. This was his best finish since finishing 27th at Talladega Superspeedway in October and his first real result since finishing 35th in the 2024 season finale at Phoenix with the same team.

Other than this past Sunday’s Straight Talk Wireless 400, they have not yet announced any other starts, although a similar schedule is anticipated for 2025.

Even as a non-chartered (open) team, it is difficult to believe that NY Racing Team won’t be locked in when they decide to compete because a Cup Series entry list rarely has more than 40 vehicles for a race other than the Daytona 500. They are already ahead of that pace because they didn’t make their second start until the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway in May of last year.

Two open cars remain on the entry list for the Cook Out 400 at Martinsville on Sunday afternoon, and neither has participated in a Cup race this year. Casey Mears will drive the No. 66 Ford for Garage 66, while Burt Myers will drive the No. 50 Chevrolet for Team AmeriVet.

Neither of the two open cars that are still on the entry list for Sunday afternoon’s Cook Out 400 at Martinsville has competed in a Cup race this year. Burt Myers will drive the No. 50 Chevrolet for Team AmeriVet.a, and Casey Mears will drive the No. 66 Ford for Garage 66.

Garage 66 attempted and failed to qualify for the Daytona 500, and both teams attempted and failed to qualify for the Cook Out Clash exhibition race at Bowman Gray Stadium prior to the season.
