Players can now formally sign with new teams as NFL free agency officially began on March 10 with the legal negotiation window. (The new league year began on March 12.) There has been a lot of activity already.
Laremy Tunsil (Commanders), Geno Smith (Raiders), and wideout DK Metcalf (Steelers) have all been dealt in the last week or two. Sam Darnold earned $100 million and replaced Smith in Seattle, while fellow signal-caller Daniel Jones signed with the Colts and Justin Fields signed with the Jets.
Chris Godwin, wide receiver; Ronnie Stanley, offensive tackle; and edge rusher Khalil Mack all inked new contracts with their teams. The Patriots’ defense will be strengthened with defensive tackle Milton Williams, defensive end Josh Sweat departing for the Cardinals, cornerback D.J. Reed joining the Lions, wideout Davante Adams joining the Rams, and pass rusher Joey Bosa sliding into the Bills’ defense.
